  • Exercise Programming

One of our core values at ActiveRecovery is that Movement is Medicine. We combine our knowledge of anatomy and physiology for massage with our study of personal training to create programmes that address dysfunctional movement patterns and strengthen the body.

Exercise Programming is available as a one-off service or as part of an ongoing training plan, from €35. Schedule a Call Back or send us an email to discuss further

Clients returning to or beginning their movement journey may be interested in Vitality by ActiveRecovery, our unique personal training approach combining massage, cold therapy, forest bathing and movement training, delivered together in a gentle and nurturing programme.

  • Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation

IASTM uses steel instruments to apply deep pressure to injured and scarred areas of soft tissue. It may be incorporated into a Sports Massage or where indicated as part of a Pain and Injury Treatment protocol.

It is available as a standalone treatment where it has been proven to relieve pain associated with many conditions, including Plantar Facsciitis; Chronic Joint Swelling from Sprains and Strains; Patellar Tendinitis; Non-Acute Bursitis

    30 minutes €35

  • Taping and Strapping

Sports and zinc oxide taping offers mechanical support for a wide array of common injuries, helping to reduce pain, limit excessive or inappropriate movement and encouraging a fast and effective recovery.

The compression provided by taping increases blood flow to the affected area, and reduces swelling whilst ensuring stability and strength.

Currently available as an add-on €10

  • Massage

Feeling sore and tight, but not injured? A Sports Massage may be just what you need to feel looser and shake off the niggles. Click below to see our massage options.

About Soft Tissue Therapy

Soft Tissue Therapy is the hands-on manipulation and mobilisation of the soft tissues of the body to relieve pain, support healing, and increase Range of Motion. We use a number of techniques including fundamentals from Sports and Orthopaedic Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy and Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation.

Notice the word ‘mobilisation’ in the description? Yup, Soft Tissue Therapy, particularly massage, counts as movement… Soft Tissue Therapy stimulates the flow of blood and lymph throughout the circulatory and lymphatic systems, delivering oxygen- and nutirent-rich blood cells and aiding the removal of waste. The same effect as exercise.

Additionally, deep tissue work and ‘movement’ of the fascia (connective fibres between the muscles), can reverse the ‘fuzz’ that sets in when movement is restricted… What do I mean by fuzz? Well, Gil Hedley, Fascia Guy and anatomist uses the word fuzz to mean the accumulation of fascial fibrosis within and between fascial planes, that result from injury, lack of movement and postural patterns. You know the way a good stretch loosens you up a little? That’s fuzz melting away. Soft tissue therapy that targets fascial fibrosis ‘moves’ muscle, fascia, blood and lymph and can restore the ability of the fascial planes to glide over each other, resulting in improved biomechanical movement patterns, increased strength, range of motion, and of course decreased pain.

Massage is movement and movement is therapy. They go together like peas and carrots, a wink and a smile, soup and a sambo…

So if you are returning to movement from injury, inactivity, or you are looking to maintain a ‘fuzz-free’ body, explore one of our Soft Tissue treatment options and Move Well.

“Every cat in the world gets up in the morning and stretches his body, and it melts the “fuzz.” ~ Gil Hedley, “The Fuzz Speech”

A further note on IASTM:

IASTM is a skilled myofascial intervention based on the principles of cross-fibre friction massage and compression. It is effective in the breaking-down of myofascial adhesions by initiating the reabsorption and restructuring of tissue damaged by surgery, immobilisation and strain. It involves the use of stainless steel instruments that are contoured to different anatomical locations, allowing for a deeper penetration into the soft tissue and supporting full functional restoration. Remedial Exercise Programming, with a focus on mobility and strength, is particularly recommended following IASTM.

A further note on Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is commonly used as an effective, adjunctive therapy to conventional treatments for neurological disorders, cancer and cardiac disease. Benefits are acheieved through activation of the Gate Control Theory of Pain whereby painful impulses sent to the brain are blocked by impulses sent from the pleasurable stimulus. This effect is amplified by the release of neurochemicals and hormones that promote a sense of calm and well-being. Please be advised that a Doctors note approving massage therapy will be requested for all new clients receiving treatments for these and other conditions.
